A monument erected in gratitude to the residents of Katowice for their solidarity in 1956
After the Hungarian Revolution of October 1956 was brutally suppressed, a massive solidarity movement emerged in Polish society. By then, it was no longer blood donations but the organization of aid shipments and the collection of monetary donations that provided crucial assistance to the Hungarians. Katowice and the entire Silesian Voivodeship played a key role in this effort.
In gratitude to the citizens of Katowice for the solidarity they showed in the fall of 1956 toward the Hungarian people, who were fighting for their freedom and independence during the Hungarian Uprising.
