1956 Commemorative Plaque
The commemorative plaque is located in the inner courtyard of the main building of the Krakow University of Technology (Politechnika Krakowska) and commemorates one of the most beautiful moments of Polish-Hungarian solidarity. On October 30, 1956, the university’s students and staff organized a massive solidarity rally here to express their support for the Hungarian people fighting for freedom. Among Kraków’s universities, the Polytechnic was the first to openly stand in support of the Hungarian Revolution, and after the rally, the students also organized a mass blood drive to help the wounded Hungarians.
"On October 30, 1956, at a general assembly of the Kraków University of Technology, a university committee was formed at this location to support the fighting Hungarians.
The commemorative plaque was created to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.
