Maple Island Hungarian Memorial

The 1956 memorial on Maple Island commemorates the events of October and also expresses gratitude to Canada, which welcomed one of the largest numbers of Hungarian refugees from 1956 and gave them a chance at a new life. Located on a small island in the Rideau River, the monument expresses gratitude to Canada for welcoming more than 37,500 Hungarian refugees who arrived after the 1956 Revolution.
