Monument, plaque · San Francisco, United States
Gloria Victis statue (or the 1956 Gloria Victis monument / “Glory to the Vanquished!” monument)
It is the result of a joint effort by Hungarian churches, associations, and the local diaspora living in San Francisco and the Bay Area. It was unveiled on October 23, 1986, on the 30th anniversary of the 1956 Revolution and War of Independence. Every year, the Hungarian community in Northern California gathers at this monument to commemorate the victims of the 1956 Revolution and War of Independence.
“The Hungarian spirit is immortal, and it will come to redeem the human race.”
