Globe - Monument to the Village's Emigrants

This monument is an exception in the collection because, although it is located in Hungary, just a few hundred meters from the Austrian border, the Globe was erected by those who emigrated after 1956 on the 60th anniversary of the revolution, symbolizing that the people of Szentpéterfa, though scattered across the world, yet united people of Szentpéterfa will never forget their hometown.

The globe commemorates the people of Szentpéterfa, who are scattered across the world yet remain united; the inscription on its pedestal reads: “Beautiful borders of my homeland! Will I ever see you again?” József Teklits commissioned the monument. The year 2016 marked the 60th anniversary of the 1956 Revolution; to commemorate this occasion, those who left after 1956 collected a substantial donation. With these funds, a metal globe was crafted in the United States and named “Glóbusz.” The globe was shipped home by boat and now stands next to St. Stephen’s Chapel. The globe commemorates the people of Szentpéterfa, who are scattered across the world yet remain united; its pedestal bears the inscription: “Beautiful borders of my homeland! Will I ever see you again?” Opposite the globe, behind the school, stands the House of Values. It, too, was completed for the 2016 celebration with the support of Szentpéterfa residents living in the United States. Locals refer to the House of Values as a “local history museum,” as it showcases the region’s culture, customs, traditions, and the history of Szentpéterfa. The town maintains active ties to Szentpéterfa natives living in the United States and their descendants to this day.

Inscription
"My beautiful Birthplace! When will I see you again?"
