Weeping Dove
The plaque commemorates a gesture of Polish solidarity with the Hungarian Revolution: in the fall of 1956, students from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw sold their own works at the university’s gate (where the plaque stands), dedicating the proceeds to the Hungarian revolutionaries. Above the text is a reproduction of the drawing "Weeping Dove" by graphic artist Franciszek Starowieyski — the artist created the work as a reference to Picasso’s famous dove of peace, making it a symbol of the final rejection of illusions regarding communism’s love of peace.
