Hungary is grateful to New Zealand
Köszönjük Új-Zéland!
The Hungarian Government and people thank the New Zealand Government, the New Zealand Red Cross, churches, schools, families and all New Zealanders who extended a helping hand to the Hungarian refugees coming to New Zealand after the suppression of the Hungarian Revolution in 1956. 367 souls arrived between December 1956 and December 1957 aboard the MS Sibajak that berthed in Wellington Harbour.
This plaque is dedicated to the 60th Anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight and unveiled on 14 November 2016 by H.E. János Áder, President of Hungary.
